Job summary: The Manager of PAT/PreOp/PACU Department: Directs, coordinates and controls the multi-disciplinary activities for patients undergoing surgical intervention and recovery in a safe environment. Responsible for the interpretation, direction, and evaluation of nursing practice to promote safe, efficient, and therapeutically effective nursing care throughout the Pre-op, PACU, and Step-Down Recovery areas. Demonstrates the primary goal of providing surgical and recovery care services that exceed customer expectations and improve clinical and financial operations. Serves as a leader and role model for the clinical staff. Makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicates appropriate information to other team members. Helps maintain equipment, supplies, and cleanliness of unit as a whole. May have additional responsibilities as designed by the Chief Nursing Officer/Administrator, which include, but are not limited to, providing patient care in other departments (after being oriented and educated), serving on committees, participating in quality improvement audits, and projects.
Formulates and implements nursing philosophy and objectives consistent with the stated goals of the Center.
Assists in developing policies, procedures, and staffing essential to the achievement of the philosophy and objectives of the Center. Reviews and revises these in collaboration with the Administrator, the nursing staff and the professional staff, keeping up to date on current trends in nursing practice and patient care.
Evaluates programs and patient care activities.
Ensures continued compliance with government regulatory agencies, i.e. HIPPA, the facilities accrediting organizational standards, and The Joint Commission.
Assures documentation of patient care meets criteria dictated by legal practice, state, and federal health standards.
Develops an organizational structure, assigning responsibilities and delegating authority that shall facilitate safe, effective, and efficient care for the patient.
Provides leadership and support in developing and maintaining effective relationships with the center staff and the medical staff.
Establishes, maintains, analyzes, and evaluates standards of nursing care within the Pre-op and, PACU areas in compliance with professional nursing standards.
Prepares weekly and monthly nursing schedules.
Collaborates on standards of performance with the ancillary support services.
Recruits, retains, evaluates, and supervises PACU & Pre-Op nursing personnel.
Maintains awareness of professional issues at the local, state, and national levels that impact the delivery of nursing services and health care management.
Initiates and / or supports activities to control costs.
Makes recommendations for medical supplies and equipment purchases to the Administrator based on the evaluation of new or improved products.
Assists with quarterly inventory, including counting.
Delegates administrative responsibilities to another staff R.N. in his / her absence with notification to the Administrator.
Provides guidance, counseling, and support as needed to the PACU and Pre-Op nursing staff.

Required Skills:
Qualifications:
Graduate of professional school of Nursing. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
Current Registered Nurse in the state of Texas.
Current CPR, ACLS, PALS.
Knowledge of Joint Commission rules and regulations.
Minimum 2 years' experience in a peri-operative, or ICU hospital setting
Minimum 2 years' management experience
