Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Clinics is the safety net hospital and clinic system for Contra Costa County. We have a central hospital in Martinez and have outpatient clinic locations in seven different parts of the county from Brentwood in the far east to San Pablo in the west, and several sites in between. Contra Costa is a diverse community that addresses the needs of all people who enter our system of care. We accept everyone without barriers based on their ability to pay, etc. We are also integrated with our public health department to help provide care and support to our most vulnerable patients.
We are a free-standing family medicine training program and there is a strong family medicine presence in both hospital and ambulatory care. The Pediatric Department is an independent department in the medical staff structure. There are about 31 pediatricians and a mix of family physicians and nurse practitioners rounding out the group of 37. The group is divided with about 2/3 working solely in the ambulatory setting and 1/3 working as hospitalists covering a busy level 1 and level 2 nursery.
The hospital group is a relatively small, tight knit group that provides 24/7 coverage. We staff two physicians in the hospital during the day and one overnight. We have regularly scheduled family medicine residents on our service that we provide supervision and education to on a daily basis. The scope of work includes care of all babies in the level 2 nursery, admission and discharge of all well babies, attending all c-section deliveries as well as attending any birth with fetal concerns. We also provide consultation to the emergency room and outside clinics. We highly value the multidisciplinary team of OB, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Anesthesia, Nursing, Social Work and Lactation Consultants that bring care to a diverse population of patients with often complex medical and social needs. We have a strong culture of safety where every member of the team has an equal voice. We have a strong referral system for specialty care, transfers to higher level of care and support for critically ill newborns. We have regular department meetings, peer review, perinatal M&M and educational opportunities. We work closely with the ambulatory system to coordinate high risk deliveries in advance as well as provide safe discharge care. We also pride ourselves on being a certified Baby Friendly Hospital and require all providers to have the necessary education to provide the highest level of lactation support to our families.
We are currently recruiting for a full-time pediatrician to join our group fully with a combination of day, night and weekend shifts. We are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and welcome all people who are interested in learning more about this opportunity.
There is a full benefit package with retirement, health care, dental care, etc. and opportunities to participate in medical staff activities such as committees, quality improvement and resident education depending on interest and experience. There is some additional pay if you prove fluency in another language of need in our system.
Interested applicants should contact Francine Jolton, MD, Department Chair, at Fjolton@cchealth.org.
