Perform a variety of technical, environmen tal, and patient care dutiesunder the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. These duties areperformed in accordance with establishedhospital andnursing policyand within the legal scope of practice for the unlicens edcaregiver.
Work Performed
Level IVerify patient lo cation and identification.Transferand/or assist patients during transpor t,following departmental safetyguidelines.Communicate with patients andrespond to patientneeds promptly, satisfy needs or refer their requests toappropriate personnel.Keep charge nurse informed of room statusand att endant availability.Assist in the orientation of newstaff as requested b ynurse manager or designee.Provideemergency assistance as required and/o rdirected by surgeon and/ornursing personnel.Transport specimen, equipme nt, etc. toappropriate area in safe and efficient manner.According to th eplan of care developed by the RN, deliver patient care appropriate totheage of the patients served.Successfully complete annualself-instruction al unit regarding age appropriate care for the infant,toddler, child,ado lescent, adult and geriatricpatients.Prepare the unit for cases/ procedu res utilizingfunctional equipment and supplies.Assist with positioning t hepatient and follow accepted procedures for preparation of patientsfors urgical procedures.Assist with wraps, casts, anddressings.Route non-func tional equipment to proper maintenancedepartment for repair, notingon eq uipment what the malfunction appearsto be.Assist in minor maintenance fu nctions (i.e. replace lightbulbs in power sources and surgical lights).S et up andtroubleshoot all equipment in service line and 85% of allequipm ent inother services.Accurately and safely use all patientpositioning de vices and tables.Clean equipment, tables andfloor as required withproper cleaning solution.Collect, bagand remove soiled linen and trashproperly. Replace suctionliners, trash bags and other supplies as needed.Return cl eanedequipment to appropriate area after the case.Stock and maintainadeq uate levels of supplies at scrub sink and sub rooms asappropriate.Mainta in orderly work environment by keepingoperating rooms, storageareas, hal lways and all units clean, tidy andhazard free.Obtain and maintain units upplies andequipment.Level IIPerform all duties of Level I inadditionto the following:Serve as a resource and role modelfor SurgicalAttendants a nd others.Provide leadership andguidance to Surgical Attendants underthe direction of anRN.Assist with daily assignments in cooperation withunit management representatives.Cooperate in planning orientation ofnewSurgic al Attendants, under the supervision of an RN.Providefeedback to managem ent representative regarding orientation/ skills ofnew employees.Serve a s a resource and role model forSurgicalAttendants and others.Provide lea dership and guidance toSurgical Attendants under the direction ofan RN.A ssist withdaily assignments in cooperation with unit managementrepresent atives.Cooperate in planning orientation of newSurgical Attendants, unde r the supervision of an RN.Providefeedback to management representative regarding orientation/ skills ofnew employees.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires basic mechanical knowledge for assembly of equipment and the ability to comprehend and follow instructions normally acquired through a partial high school education.
Experience
Level I experience. experience. Level II Six months experience in a hospital setting or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or Three years experience as Surgical Attendant I, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Level I Level II Current BCLS certification. Same as Level I plus, currently listed as a Nursing Assistant (NAI) with the North Carolina Division of Facilities Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of property (preferred butnot required).
