The CLINICAL TEAM LEAD RN (CTL) is a role developed to work in coordination with the nursing leadership in an assigned clinic/practice to ensure the work is accomplished effectively. The CTL RN is the first line support for staff, physicians and other related providers on service- specific clinical issues. The CTL RN is generally a long-term role, requiring clinical and interpersonal skills.
◾ The CTL RN collaborates with the manager on clinical and non-clinical issues (employee relations, individual behaviors, physician relationships, etc.). The ACL RN is the support for the clinic/practice when the manager is unavailable. The CTL RN is responsible for supervising, directing, coaching and mentoring their assigned core group of staff.
Work Performed Duties and responsibilities include all those required of the ACN IV:
◾Plan and coordinate clinical requirements for staff and ensure that all CBO and CBE requirements for staff are current
◾Plan and assist with coordination of staff schedules and submit for manager approval
◾Coordinate clinical requirements with staff regarding equipment and supplies
◾Consult with preceptors and orientees on a regular basis to provide support and determine how orientation should proceed on an individual basis
◾Collaborate with the manager for issue resolutions and projects to improve work flow processes throughout the department utilizing a proactive approach.
◾Collaborate with different departments (pharmacy, radiology, lab, registration) to resolve issues and improve work flow processes throughout the department
◾Collaborate with the nurse managers in the interview process for new applicants
◾Mentor/coach staff to enhance their professional development
◾Assesses the performance of assigned new hires and orientees including entry level nurses, certified medical assistants and radiologic technologists; provides ongoing feedback and coaching
◾Understand and communicate potential clinical equipment or supply issues to appropriate team members
◾Mentor and monitor the preceptors for all new employees
◾Provide clinical/education updates and skill check-offs to entire staff on a regular basis
◾Provides immediate support and education on policy, procedures, equipment and supplies
◾Responsible for learning, implementing and teaching new technology/procedures
◾Demonstrates awareness of current problem s and basic plan for all patients within assigned area
◾Provides clinical consultation and guidance as needed to facilitate patient care
◾Gives assistance and/or direction to staff to facilitate quality patient flow
◾Assess staffing needs according to workload and staff competency; Re-assigns and adjusts staffing based upon patient care needs
◾Delegates responsibiliies within the scope of practice and validated competencies in order to meet the workload demands of the shift. Facilitates assignments that support learning for the orientee or nurse learner
◾Promotes an atmosphere of open communication that facilitates staff input into decision-making, resolution of conflict, and collegiality among all health team members
◾Communicates in an effective, professional manner
◾Facilitates staff performance audits related to attitude, team performance, The Joint Commission , DFS standards and SCIP initiatives
◾Reviews and comments on forwarded SRSs related to their team. Facilitates and encourages staff participation in departmental and entity committee and council meetings.
◾Attends departmental and entity committee meetings as assigned
◾Coordinates, facilitates, participates and directs departmental projects with follow-through and appropriate follow-up
◾Other projects and duties as directed by the department managers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
◾Knowledge of scope of the RN, LPN Competent in BLS and/or specialized life support requirements
◾Appropriate application of the nursing process
◾Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients
◾Professional theory, practice and procedure designated by work area
◾Establish and maintain effective working relationships healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others move or lift at least fifty pounds
◾Communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors,
◾Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering medications/treatments
◾Use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize nursing care assistant and medical assistant
◾Independently seek out resources and work collaboratively
◾Teach patient, families in accordance with the nursing plan of care, information, treatment, and follow-up
◾Able to use fine motor skills
◾Record activities, document assessments, plan of care, interventions, evaluation and re-evaluation of patient status.
◾Use computer and learn new software programs
◾Navigate the entity to provide clinical care for patients
◾Withstand prolonged standing and walking.
◾Remain focused and organized
◾Provide routine and special treatments to patients.
◾Mentor/coach staff in customer service communication.
◾Collaborate with practice providers and practice medical director to resolve issues and improve work flow processes throughout the department.
◾Oversight and delegation of supply ordering and par management
◾Oversight and delegation of medication ordering and par management
◾Mentor charge nurses in prioritization, leadership, delegation and staff education.
◾Assists with quality improvement initiatives in the practice
◾ Assist manager with staff performance evaluations
◾Facilitate clinic huddles in the absence of practice management
◾This position will require weekend, evening, holiday and inclement weather hours as directed
◾Ambulatory Care Nurse III classification is preferred.
◾Requires graduation from an accredited nursing program with a BSN degree
◾Incumbents in this job classification effective on or before 10/01/2015 who currently hold an Associate's Degree in Nursing or a Nursing Diploma may remain in this classification under a "grandfathered" status
◾Transferring to another job classification will require that all minimum qualifications of that job be met and will result in a loss of grandfathering status for this classification
◾Requires three years of nursing experience
◾In addition to the education and experience described above, incumbents must meet all requirements set forth by the Clinical Ladder Committee in Nursing for Clinical Nurse/Ambulatory Care Nurse III within one year of
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
◾Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
