The Battle Creek VA Healthcare System is recruiting for a Health Technician. The Health Technician will function in Ambulatory Care Nursing Service / Specialty Services / Chiropractic. Preparing a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of clinic operations. Eg medical clerk functions, medical record coding, release of information, or other duties as assigned, etc. in the absence of other staff. Completing tasks that are of a clerical and technical support to the Medical and Nursing staff. Eg. Completion of clinical reminders, obtaining preliminary medical history, providing order entry for provider's signature, input of electronic progress notes at time of care, exit interview input, appointment scheduling, consultation/completion status input, arranges for hospital admission, assist with community/HBHC referrals, reports tests results to clinician, provides educational instruction for patients/family, and performs other required administrative or clerical support as needed. Providing ongoing monitoring of vital signs including pain assessments. Performing testing for blood glucose monitoring. Arranging and passing medical instruments and materials to medical/nursing professional for a variety of tests and procedures. Reinforcing education presented by a provider or RN including teaching patients and family members the necessity to continue the procedures for proper health care. Completing weekly inspections of wall mounted biohazard disposal sharps containers. Assuring adequate supplies are ordered through SPD for deliveries to the clinic's main supply room. Performs weekly inventory of expired instruments and medical supplies. Cleaning exam tables, other surfaces in exam room, wheelchairs etc. Maintaining various unit logs and other related clerical duties associated with patient care and treatment. Completing all required CPRS data entry connected to patient care both clinically and administratively. Identifies inconsistencies or discrepancies among documentation and reports these findings to the appropriate staff. Transporting specimens and reusable medical equipment to specified location. Providing and performing a variety of program support duties as assigned. Identifying unusual test results or discrepancies/conditions that can cause erroneous results (e.g. instrument malfunction, conditions of test performance, reaction systems and/or test procedures.) Observing all safety and infection control practices in accordance the procedures established by national, regional, and facility policies. Promoting a culture of safety and will fully cooperate in efforts to improve patient safety and eradicate potential events including the reporting of events resulting in actual or potential injury to a patient. Following all policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and requirements and be stewards of the environment through pollution prevention, waste minimization and resource conservation. Communicating effectively and courteously while working as a healthcare team member. Checking request slips for proper information. Logging in specimens and deliver specimens to various laboratory sections. Assisting in the training of students and new employees. Performing clerical functions such as photocopying, sorting, assembling, filing and delivery of such. Answering telephones, sorts incoming mail, and other clerical tasks. Performing diagnostic test/procedures such as venipuncture for collection of blood specimens, ingerprinting for glucose determinations, suture removal, changes sterile dressings, injections and dressing changes, according to written protocol. Preparing and assisting in the preparation and cleanup of the procedure/exam rooms. Making and reporting critical observations and other reactions to the treatment team regarding conditions such as excessive bleeding, type and amount of drainage and skin integrity. Assisting with diagnostic tests such as biopsies, gynecological, urological, dermatological, and gastroenterological exams, etc. Adhering to universal precautions, infection control and cleaning procedures for personnel and equipment as set forth by clinic policy.
