We are seeking dynamic service-oriented physicians for an exciting career in College Health to provide both primary care and women's health services in an ambulatory setting to students at the University of Illinois. This position involves no call responsibilities. Salary is competitive and includes a very attractive, comprehensive benefits package with professional liability coverage. Starting date is negotiable.
A M.D. or a D.O. degree and a valid Illinois medical license (or eligibility for licensure in Illinois are required for consideration and must be board certified or board eligible in a primary care specialty. Experience in college health and experience or certification working with mental health conditions is preferred.
Patient Care Responsibilities (95%)
1. Take patient histories, sufficient to address the patient's chief complaint and other health concerns. 2. Conduct all aspects of a comprehensive physical examination including auscultation, percussion, inspection, and palpation. 3. Competently performs pelvic examinations, orthopedic examinations, neurological screening examinations, mental status examinations, and other medically necessary examinations as needed. 4. Competently perform all tests permissible to do in the physician-operated laboratory (e.g. fecal occult blood testing, urine dipstick, dipstick pregnancy testing, vaginal wet prep microscopy, and KOH prep microscopy.) 5. Accurately interpret and evaluates patient data, including initial reading of x-ray films. 6. Diagnose and treat common acute illnesses, infectious diseases, minor trauma, and chronic conditions or diseases regardless of the patient's initial complaint(s). 7. Prescribe, administer, and dispense prescription and nonprescription medications and medical devices. 8. Make referrals to other providers as appropriate to facilitate treatment plan. (e.g. referrals to emergency department, PT, OT, nutritionist, orthopedics, mental health, dermatology) 9. Consult with other physicians and/or health care professionals to confirm difficult diagnosis and facilitate appropriate treatment plan. 10. Ensure that patients receive adequate education to effectively participate in their diagnostic and therapeutic plan, and that they understand and assent to that plan and understand other appropriate alternatives. 11. Educate patients on health promotion and disease prevention. 12. Follow up with patients to review lab test results and progress in an appropriate and timely manner. 13. Complete all visit documentation in an appropriate and timely manner as determined by policy. 14. Develop and maintain technical skills necessary to provide excellent and efficient patient care. This includes competency with computer applications that enhance individual patient care and the efficiency of the health center. 15. Be efficient in the care of patients with regard to time spent with patients, number of patients seen, and resources utilized, such as laboratory, X-ray studies, consultations, pharmaceuticals, and supplies. 16. Be effective in the care of patients, with regard to overall patient outcomes and satisfaction. 17. Adhere to established Health Center policies and procedures including maintenance of records. 18. Display competency with regard to diagnosis and procedure coding. 19. Provide patient access by staffing clinics and special events per policy. 20. Perform CPR in emergency situations as indicated.
Practice Responsibilities (3%)
21. Assume appropriate related additional duties to further the mission of the unit. 22. Actively participate in McKinley's quality improvement and risk management programs and its peer review processes as outlined in policy and annual plans. 23. Attend and participate in assigned McKinley and campus committees. 24. Collaborate with and/or supervise mid-level providers as assigned. 25. Participate in university and health center promotions and promotional material as needed.
General Responsibilities (2%)
26. Utilize other members of the health care team appropriate to their skill level, licensure, and classification. 27. Treat patients, staff, and colleagues with courtesy and respect. 28. Responsible and accountable to support and ensure a culture of safety, quality and risk management including compliance with ethics. 29. Stay informed of the newest developments in medicine by attending educational conferences, literature reviews, and consulting with other medical personnel. 30. Maintain a current Illinois Physician & Surgeon license, Illinois Licensed Physician Controlled Substance registration and federal DEA controlled drug registration. 31. Register and maintain access to the Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program.
