BARGAINING UNIT POSITION
The Registered Nurse assesses plans, organizes, performs, and evaluates nursing activities to meet the needs of the patient. Promotes adaptive responses of patient/family to achieve the highest level of patient care, promote safety, and maximize patient satisfaction. Exhibits compassionate care during patient-nurse interactions. Coordinates patient care and interaction of staff. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in their assigned nursing unit. Willingly works in all Geisinger Northeast regional hospital sites as assigned GWV, GSWB, and GCMC.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides direct patient care including, treatments, medications, and diagnostic studies according to policy/procedure.
Completes assessments as established by scope of practice and unit standards. Addresses physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of patient and family throughout the continuum of care.
Formulates, coordinates, and provides plan of care as established in unit standards including, patient/family education, family needs and discharge planning throughout hospitalization with members of the interdisciplinary team.
Evaluates effectiveness of nursing interventions and revises plan of care based upon patient response to interventions.
Initiates collaboration with physicians, ancillary personnel, and other interdisciplinary team members and acts to proactively resolve and facilitate patient needs.
Makes assignments in collaboration with other team members. Directs and/or alters assignments in response to changes in patient situations.
Performs charge nurse duties as assigned.
Problem solves, troubleshoots and takes corrective measures in the care and handling of equipment.
Participates in unit-based decision-making regarding the utilization of evidence based practice.
Actively participates as a team member working toward team goals of the unit and organization and is accountable for unit/system specific metrics.
Suggests issues of improvement and offers solutions to the issues.
Supports and participates in initiatives that support the Magnet mission.
Precepts and mentors new staff in a professional, positive manner as assigned.
Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
For Registered Nurses with less than five (5) years work experience as an RN, a BSN degree is required or enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire date with BSN degree completed within 4 years of hire date is required.
For Registered Nurses with more than 5 years of work experience as an RN in an acute/inpatient capacity, a BSN degree is not required.
For current Geisinger Registered Nurses who transfer into this position, BSN degree is preferred.
One (1) year of RN work experience required.
BLS certification preferred and required within 60 days of employment.
ACLS/PALS/Trauma Certification are required within 6 months of employment.
Duration of on-the-job training to become familiar with job duties varies by individual unit.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is typically performed in a clinical environment across the Geisinger Northeast region (GWV/GSWB/GCMC).
Work location will be assigned on a daily basis.
Valid driver’s license is required.
Primary work location will vary based on open shifts and operational needs. Driving may be required between multiple locations within one shift.
