The HIM Specialist / Tech supports the medical records department by processing all requests for release of information and other assigned tasks.
Key Responsibilities include:
Process all requests for HIM information in a timely manner.
Opens mail and verifies proper information on all release of information forms.
Retrieves patient information from computer system.
Retrieves and files medical records for copying.
Copies all medical record requests.
Computes and collects all payments for medical record copies.
Delivers copies of medical records to assigned mail out location.
Assists other staff in a courteous manner.
Answers phone as necessary in a polite and courteous manner.
Seeks the direction of the Medical Records Director when questions arise regarding release of information.
Keeps work area clean and orderly and complies with safety policies and procedures.
Maintains patient and facility information confidentiality
Files lab reports, psychiatric and psychological evaluations, and transcribed information as necessary and on a regular basis.
Process, prepare, and analyze charts after discharge.
Pull charts for readmissions and copy necessary information as requested.
Delivers information to units as requested.
Pull and box records as needed for off-site scanning.
All other duties as assigned by the HIM Director.
