The COO will report to, and work closely with, the CEO of Elliot Health System. This position will be a critical and evolving role in the future success of Elliot Health System. The COO will have a focus on driving operational efficiency initiatives including process improvement, standardization and reduction of clinical variation. He/she will have responsibility for the efficient operations of all off-site facilities, ancillary and general services. The COO will be responsible for integration activities between and within the hospital and other sites, and for driving critical business management decisions and operational excellence in key components of the enterprise, while accommodating and leveraging an increasingly integrated delivery model. Additionally, the COO will be a partner with the CEO in identifying growth and innovation opportunities. He/she will thrive in a visionary, fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

The COO will:
Serve as a key member of the Elliot Health System leadership team, leading integration efforts throughout the continuum.
Work to further integrate inpatient and outpatient operations within and between EHS and the physician and administrative enterprise in the service of more rapid and relevant decision-making, elimination of unnecessary costs and more deliberate adaptation to patient-centered care.
Promote the need for efficiency in all operations, establishing short- and long-term organizational goals in partnership with other executives and clinical leadership. Be passionate about and embrace the organizational philosophy of engagement with patients, their families, physicians and staff. Bring business expertise, a dedication to metrics-driven performance and recurrent evaluation to successful management and system performance.
Translate strategic imperatives to tactical leverage in the growth of clinical services that will exploit multi-service expertise, ease of use, high patient satisfaction and market differentiation.
In collaboration with other senior leadership, work to advance a collaborative organizational structure that is fully aligned with the strategic imperatives of EHS, and when necessary, recommend changes in organizational configurations, services and policies as a means to maintain or improve customer satisfaction, market share/penetration and operational efficiencies.
Take ownership for operational initiatives and following them through to completion.
Respect previous institutional culture and history, while serving as an increasingly transparent and credible agent of operational excellence and change management.
Lead the transformation of the business model from volume-based to value-based, preparing EHS well to succeed and thrive in a population health environment.
Along with other senior leaders, identify and capitalize on business development opportunities to keep the organization ahead of its competition and provide its patient population with high-quality, state-of-the-art health and wellness services.
Bring a capacity to support and develop strong teams.
Be able to attract, develop and assess talent, making changes when appropriate.
Serve as a mentor to staff, providing employees with opportunities for professional growth, in order to develop new leaders for EHS.
In general, provide the leadership necessary for EHS to achieve its operational goals, while maintaining a strong commitment to its mission and core values.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Excellent communication skills, a transparent style and the ability to mentor and manage staff, along with a proactive approach and understanding of complex trends within the healthcare delivery system are also required.
Education: Bachelor's degree in a business- or healthcare-related field, as well as a Master's degree in business administration, health care management, or a related area. Advanced member of an appropriate professional society such as ACHE preferred.
Experience: A minimum of eight to ten years of healthcare experience focusing on operations and exceptional business practices, and at least five years of experience in a significant management role within a large hospital or health system. Relevant experience will include a track record of success in major, operational improvement projects.
