Slocum Orthopedics is recruiting for a full time ASC Administrator for our on-site AAAHC Accredited Surgery Center. This position is responsible for oversight of a physician owned four Operating Room center performing around 4300 outpatient orthopedic surgeries per year. Aspects of management include staffing, financial control, projects, recertification, credentialing, and other management duties as required.
Surgery Center Financial Management and Budgeting
Promotes financial viability of surgery enter through appropriate budgeting and monitoring of financial performance related to pricing strategies, revenues, expenditures and resource management.
Develops and recommends strategic and operational plans and operating policies to Governing Body. Implements actions and policies, and monitors progress.
Produces accurate and timely capital and operating surgery center budgets for presentation to the Governing Body.
Interfaces with the Slocum P.C. billing office in regards to patient bills and reimbursement.
Recommends and implements operational strategies that utilize all aspects of the surgery center in a cost effective and patient oriented manner.
Develops, implements and evaluates services, establishing systems that ensure efficient and cost-effective utilization of space, material and personnel.
Demonstrates continuous awareness of material management needs, interacting with vendors and outsourced services as needed in a timely and professional manner.
Negotiates payer contracts for Slocum Surgery Center.
Serves as a member of the Management Team for Slocum Orthopedics, P.C., working collaboratively with other Directors within that organization.
Prepares a plan of the achievement of the Surgery Center’s specific objectives and mutually established goals and periodically reviews and evaluates such plan. Said plan shall at all times reflect the organization’s mission statement and be in accordance with the ethics and goals of the organization.
Prepares and annual budget showing the expected revenues and expenditures as required by the Governing Body.
Plans for future improvement in procedures and organization of the surgery center. Anticipates problems that may have an impact on the surgery center and its future.
Constantly monitors surgery center operating statistics to isolate trends and dramatic changes in performance to ensure the surgery center is maintaining its place and competitive edge in the community and the surrounding areas.
Periodically reviews the reimbursement formulas of Medicare, Medicaid and commercial.
Initiates, maintains and ensures that all documents required in the credentialing/recredentialing process are current and renewed as appropriate.
Ensures that all laws and regulations pertaining to insurance and clinical equipment are adhered to and that current licensure is maintained.
Provides assistance to CFO with internal controls.
Establishes and implements a protocol for ordering supplies, equipment, narcotics, etc.
Maintains a current knowledge of CPT/ICD-9-CM codes and DRG’s and the potential impact they may have on the operations of the surgery center in the future. Ensures that the coding of procedures and diagnoses results in appropriate reimbursements.
Works with the building maintenance and makes provisions for maintenance of the surgery center.
Working in collaboration with the Medical Director and intermediate managers/charge nurses, supervises surgery center staff in an objective, positive manner while ensuring that patient and employee rights are upheld. Enforces adherence to policies, procedures or regulations.
Ensures that all staff performance evaluations are completed as identified in the Policy and Procedures manual of the surgery center.
Working in conjunction with the Director of Human Resources and Medical Director, plans, organizes, directs, controls and/or coordinates the personnel training of the surgery center. Work may involve establishing employer/employee relations policies; directing the selection, training and evaluation of employees; administering safety programs; developing wage and salary schedules. Creates and maintains an on-the-job training program for employees to ensure understanding of jobs and cross training.
Plans, organizes, directs, controls or coordinates the activities of the ASC Materials Coordinator.
Examines, analyzes and interprets accounting records for the purpose of giving advice or preparing statements. Advises on systems of recording costs or other financial and budgetary data.
Examines budget estimates for completeness, accuracy and conformance with procedures and regulations. Examines requests for budget revisions, recommend approval or denial and drafts correspondence. Analyzes monthly department budgeting and accounting reports for the purpose of maintaining expenditure controls. Provides technical assistance to the physicians in the preparation of budgets.
Working with the Director of Human Resources to ensure compliance and maintenance of personnel records. Complies and posts employee time and payroll data. Reviews and approves time records for employees. Establishes vacation schedules and approves all time off for employees.
Interviews, hires, terminates employees as necessary. Orients new employees to the organization.
Records and Reports
Responsible for the authentication, preparation and submission of reports, ensuring confidentiality of all records, including;Maintains an inventory of all insurance plans and policies that the surgery center currently has in effect. Prepare and makes recommendations to the physicians concerning additions, deletions or cancellations of any plans or policies.

Surgery center financial reports and analyses, including fees, A/R, A/P, insurance reimbursement
Monitors invoices received from vendors, and ensures payment.
Researches proposed equipment purchases. Makes presentations to the physicians as to the advantages and disadvantages of each item. Searches for lowest price consistent with the highest quality.
Prepares and maintains operating, capital and cash budgets for the surgery center. Ensures that a monthly income statement and balance sheet and presents it to the physicians monthly.
Reviews ASC accounts receivable with appropriate personnel. Maintains current knowledge of accounts receivable.
Reviews the fee schedule of the surgery center at periodic intervals. Makes recommendations to the Governing Body concerning fee increases. Computes increases.
Meetings and Conferences
Schedules and prepares business meetings for the governing body physicians and other committees. Provides current information on all operating components of the surgery center to facilitate decision-making.
Works with the surgery center accounting and legal counsel as required, including providing requested information.
Reports on and discusses activities and needs of the surgery center. Discusses surgery center performance improvement and progress.
Discusses safety, infection control, exposure control and risk management.
Discusses expansion in terms of future goals/needs, new/revised surgery center policies, etc.
Sees that all surgery center routines, policies and procedures are carried out as outlined.
Keeps abreast of new human/patient rights issues as applicable.
Attends conventions, meetings or special courses whenever possible, and shares information gained with surgery center personnel.
Maintains good public relations with all community sources.
Policies and Procedures
Prepares and maintains a current Policy and Procedures Manual that provides details on the operating rules that govern the surgery center, as well as the fringe benefits accruing to employees.
Standardizes procedures and initiates changes when necessary.
Keeps current and adheres to policies and procedures as identified in the Policy and Procedures manual. Reviews policies and procedures with surgery center personnel as needed.
A successful candidate for this position must have 5-8 years of ASC management experience, at least 2 years of which must have been at the highest level of management in an ASC. A Bachelors or Masters in healthcare administration or a related field and/or RN licensure is desired.
