South Tyler Ambulatory Surgery Center has 5 operating rooms and does a wide variety of day procedures including ophthalmology, orthopedic, ENT, plastics and dental. The Pre-Op nurse functions to directly assess, develop, implement and evaluate individualized plans of care for all perioperative patients in the pre-operative phase.
Demonstrate Knowledge of the Nursing Process by utilizing Critical Thinking Skills to include:
Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation and Documentation.
Provide Safety/Quality care to all patients which includes the following: patient safety, accurate patient identification, effective communication, safe medication administration, hand hygiene protocol compliance, accurate medication reconciliation, acknowledge and implement orders, fall risk prevention, involve the patient in the plan of care, psychosocial assessments, SCIP protocol compliance, work environment safety and adherence to safe/legal requirements.
Professional Accountability and Development by adhering to the following: follow proper chain of command, ensure skills/competencies/licensures are up to date in department/Human Resources, flexible with work schedule and assignments, maintain attendance according to policy, attend mandatory meetings/in-services, seek specialty certification, produce high volume of work without decreasing quality of care during heavy work periods, flexible to relocate to other areas during low census, function with minimal direction from leader/charge nurse, organize work and complete assignments, maintain high productivity to manage high volumes, manage time well to diminish/alleviate OR holds, support department goals and objectives in a positive manner, promote a positive work environment.
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Minimum requirement is an Associate Degree in Nursing; Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Must be licensed as Registered Nurse with the State of Texas
Minimum of 1 year of experience as a RN in an acute care setting, prefer pre-op experience.
CPR Certification through the American Heart Associate or American Red Cross
